Antique Family Bible Repairs
Family heritage Bibles handed down through generations often contain hand written records of genealogical history and notable family events. The births, baptisms, marriages, deaths and other significant events have been inscribed by ancestors over centuries. These heirloom volumes provide a valuable historical record and unite family members through time.
This antique heritage Bible with deeply embossed leather polychrome covers, metal fittings is elaborately illustrated and contains centuries of hand written family notations detailing the marriages, births, baptisms, notable events, migrations, deaths and inheritances of this extensive family spread over continents. This Bible has travelled with various members as they emigrated to Australia first in the 1840’s, returning to England in the early 20th century, emigrating a second time to Australia in the 1970’s and finally returned to England again in 2004.
An 18th century bible in three volumes repaired and rebound for the family to hand down to their children and grandchildren for the future. Extensive cleaning, paper repairs, rebinding onto strong internal cords, hand marbled endpapers, headbands and page ribbons. Original cover leathers were lifted, cleaned, preserved, polished and replaced onto the new bindings. The client requested that the original spine titling be preserved and remounted.
This family Bible arrived at the studio in pieces and held together with bits of old rope. The family history has been hand written over several generations within the pages. Completely debound, cleaned, repaired, preserved and rebound in new leather binding with hand marbled papers, headbands and page ribbons. Extra archival pages were added to provide space to continue the family history records. All original inscriptions, inclusions genealogy remounted into new binding to hand down for the future.
